SPE Exhibition – Four Corners


“Four Corners,” a student exhibition curated by the southwest chapter of the Society of Photographic Education (SPE-SW), opens Friday, Oct. 11, 6-8 pm. The show runs through November 2 alongside “Picture.Me.Here,” a photo project for refugee teens in Denver.

Artists are: Margaret-Ann Canez, Ashley Czajkowski, Nicholas Gialanella, Lara Haddad, Beth Hansen, and Abby Hepner.

SPE-SW will host the 2013 regional conference in Denver on Saturday, October 12, 2013. The conference theme, “Letters to an Emerging Artist,” is geared towards emerging artists/photographers and will take place on the Auraria campus.

The conference will include lectures from recognized photographers and curators including: Patrick Manning (University of New Mexico), Terry Martin (Salt Lake Community College), Melanie McWhorter (PhotoEye Book division), Eric Paddock (Curator of Photography, Denver Art Museum), Betsy Schneider (Arizona State University), and Paul Weinrauch (American Society of Media Photographers).

The lecturers aim to inspire and enlighten audience members regarding current trends and practices within photography. There will be a portfolio walk-through on Saturday afternoon that will provide an opportunity for participants to receive feedback from the speakers and local arts reviewers.

Film screenings and a panel discussion with select filmmakers will take place on Auraria campus in the Science Building Room #1067 from 7-9 pm. Matt Nager and Ivana Corsale will present their film Unhappy Country. Sama Alshaibi will present SWEEP, vs. The Brother, Thowra, vs. The Son, Ilham, and The Tethered. Betsy Schneider will present Triskaidekaphobia. The films and talks on Saturday evening are free and open to the public.

Additionally we are pleased to promote the opening and gallery talk of artist Bonny Lhotka at Walker Fine Art on Friday night, October 11th, from 5-6pm.
