Every summer, we offer workshops designed exclusiv Every summer, we offer workshops designed exclusively for teens interested in learning more about photography. Students are guided by qualified instructors who are passionate about sharing knowledge and tips from their own art practices.

Instructor and fellow artist, Denise Zubizarreta (@thevampdeville), began her journey with photography by collecting and fixing old cameras when she was in middle school and taking Polaroids. Denise decided to try capturing close-ups of food and eventually pivoted to macro botanical photography. Here are two examples of her work, the first image representing her current approach.

One of the reasons we love having teens in our gallery is being able to watch student work evolve right before our eyes. Even just one workshop can inspire growth and creativity!

It has been said so many ways by so many photograp It has been said so many ways by so many photographers, the connection that exists between photography and memory.

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever…It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.” — Aaron Siskind

“Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still.” — Dorothea Lange

“The best images are the ones that retain their strength and impact over the years, regardless of the number of times they are viewed.” — Anne Geddes

This long weekend not only marks the beginning of summer, but also the observance of Memorial Day, when we honor the memory of U.S. military personnel who passed while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

One way to commemorate the day and to remember is with the power of photography. Perhaps it is spending some time this weekend with your camera or looking at pictures with others. Although we are temporarily closed we have our permanent collection online as well as past exhibitions, including all Veterans Workshop Series shows.

Did you know that landscape depictions declined af Did you know that landscape depictions declined after the fall of the Roman Empire and it wasn't until the 16th century that Renaissance artists began a revival of the subject?

Landscape and nature have been constant themes in painting and photography, evolving through countless approaches. Today's featured artists, Dawn Watson (@dawnwatson.photo) and Vicki Reed (@vickir33d), depict this theme in two different ways, yet share a connection as they turn to nature to escape the world's chaos.

Dawn Watson says, "Nature serves as my muse, focus of concern, a source of solace and nexus of healing as I endeavor to make sense of the grace and chaos inherent in each moment." A sentiment Vicki Reed shares, "The more chaotic the world is, the more I am drawn to the stillness of nature. I try to capture the moments that people often overlook hoping to encourage them to slow down and live in the now."

Dawn and Vicki belong to a collective of photographers who share a long history of capturing the landscape to contemplate how we affect and belong in it. They also display how photographers can tackle the same theme but with different approaches, which can be seen in the works of multiple artists within the print auction.
