So many ways to celebrate photography 🎉 Today i So many ways to celebrate photography 🎉 Today is Worldwide Cyanotype Day and Critical Mass Top 50 was recently announced! ⁠ ⁠ Critical Mass is an annual online program presented by @photolucida that makes connections within the photography community. In June, photographers from all levels, all around the world, were invited to submit a 10-image portfolio. It was then narrowed down to 200 finalists and from there the top 50 artists were selected, including Lauren Semivan and John Shimon. ⁠ ⁠ The photogram featured here by Semivan and Shimon was created as a body lays on hand-sensitized archival paper, which is exposed by the sun in an outdoor setting. The resulting cyanotype print is washed with a garden hose in an oversized wooden tray beneath a tree, and hung up to dry. This primitive art making process allows for a graceful embrace of the organic and unknown. ⁠ ⁠ But the exciting news doesn't stop there...an exhibit of the Critical Mass Top 50 will be held in our new gallery space from February 23 – April 13, 2024, curated by @dboetkers. You will get to see Semivan and Shimon's work in-person, alongside other outstanding photographers. A new exhibition is coming to CPAC this October! R A new exhibition is coming to CPAC this October! Rising and Falling will highlight the impacts of climate change on landscapes and communities across the U.S.⁠ through the perspectives of four photographers.⁠ ⁠ From the alarming depletion of the Colorado River basin to the inevitable submersion of Tangier island off the coast of Virginia, Rising and Falling presents stories about the rising of oceans, the falling of rivers, and the people that depend on them. ⁠ ⁠ Featuring artists @aheilner, @kalengoodluck, @marthakettererphotography, and @jenningssheffield_art. ⁠ ⁠ Opening Reception is Saturday, October 14th between 5 - 8 PM. For October's PhotoVox we will be holding a discus For October's PhotoVox we will be holding a discussion with two local photographers who are no strangers to the world of artificial intelligence (AI) and photography. AI has had an immense impact on the art world, and photography in general, so understanding the capabilities and limitations of AI is significant to artists rising in the world today. ⁠ ⁠ Two industry experts, Todd Dobbs (@professor_dobbs) and Patti Hallock (@pattihal), will go into the history of AI, including legal and ethical dilemmas.
