Objective:

This workshop will guide students through the process of publishing a photography project or projects in book form.

Course Description:

In this two-day workshop, you will learn how to publish a project or series of photographs you’ve been working on. On Saturday, we will examine notable projects throughout photographic history, focusing on how they were edited and sequenced. On Sunday, you will learn about the book publishing world, including various funding options, the decision to self-publish or work with a publisher, and the marketing and selling process. By the end of the workshop, you will have a solid foundation for your project, a clarified vision, and a plan for your next steps toward publication or printing.

TOPICS COVERED

Day 1:

  • Editing and sequencing your images
  • Finding your vision by distilling your work to its essence
  • Reviewing personal projects throughout the history of photography
  • Learning to make visual connections with your photographs
  • Incorporating text, captions, and other content to complement your photographs

 

Day 2:

  • Exploring ways to publish your book
  • Understanding design and layout options
  • Comparing working with a publisher vs. self-publishing
  • Print-on-demand options
  • Marketing and selling your photobook

  • 4×6 work prints of your photography project or series
  • Note-taking materials
