We are thankful to all of you who give your time, talent, and energy to support CPAC’s mission to elevate outstanding photography and the artists who create it. Slow the scroll and take a minute with us. Slow the scroll and take a minute with us.

Maybe it's being in a new space or the time of year that puts us in a reflective mood...either way, we want to recognize our Veterans Workshop Series and the 60 local U.S. Military Veterans who have graduated from the program since we started this journey in 2017. What began as a simple idea to support Veteran artists by providing free photography workshops has grown into a life-changing program for many participants who have gained the skills and confidence to share their artistic vision. We are deeply thankful to program participants, instructors, supporters, and staff who pour their hearts into this program.

Over the past six months, our current class of participants learned to refine technical skills, hone ideas into a body of work, create a portfolio, and write about their creative practice. Their final photography projects will be shown to the community in an exhibition from January 12 – February 17, 2024.

If you are a local military Veteran and would like to apply for the 2024 program, keep an eye out for the application opening in the new year. Or learn more about the program by using the link in our bio.

And a special thanks to @jpmorgan, Prevent & Prevail, @hahnemuehle_imaging, @metropolitanframecompany, @digitalsilverimaging, and @sony for supporting this year's program.

As a reminder, the gallery will be closed this wee As a reminder, the gallery will be closed this week while we prepare the space for our next exhibit, Tell Me a Story: The Role of Storytelling in Photography, opening on Thursday, November 30th. We are grateful for the extra sets of hands from our amazing volunteers and interns!

And a big thanks to the four incredible photographers of the exhibit Rising and Falling who used the art form to document distinct stories on the impact of climate change across the United States. If you are unable to see the show and would like to learn more about the artists and their work, we have a recorded panel talk on our website for viewing anytime. Fun fact: we keep all our past exhibitions on our website!

We will resume normal gallery hours on Tuesday, November 28th.

CPAC will be hosting an virtual artist talk with J CPAC will be hosting an virtual artist talk with Jacque Rupp (@jacquerupp) for the last PhotoVox of 2023. Rupp is a documentary and fine-art photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, due to release her third book next month, The Red Purse.

Published by Daylight (@daylightbooks), The Red Purse is about love, loss, and rebuilding. Shortly after the death of her husband following a long illness, Rupp bought a red purse, which became deeply personal to the artist as it represented freedom in an otherwise dark and uncertain time as a young widow. The Red Purse project is, in the end, not a tale of grief but rather a toast to life, to redefining, and to flourishing.

Join us on December 13th at 6:30PM (MST) to learn more about Rupp's journey as a photographer and her new book. Register using the link in our bio.

We always love hearing about how connections are m We always love hearing about how connections are made within our community and photography being at the heart of it. Frances Jakubek (@franciepants), an image-maker, independent curator, and advocate for artists, spoke about the connections she has made from being a part of CPAC.

"Photography organizations like Colorado Photographic Arts Center are invaluable to our community. As a curator, artist, and consultant, I look to CPAC for support in many ways. CPAC has connected me with wonderful people in this field and has opened doors for many. They see the potential in artists and provide them with opportunities to succeed. For so many photographers, these connections provide momentum to continue their practice and have the confidence to reach beyond their comfort zone."

We salute Veterans Day by congratulating the ten v We salute Veterans Day by congratulating the ten veterans who have completed their photography projects as part of our 2023 Veterans Workshop Series! In January 2024, you can look forward to an exhibition of their work in our new gallery space.

Launched by CPAC and our partners in 2017, the Veterans Workshop Series provides advanced photographic education to Denver-area military Veterans, free of charge. Over 5 months of workshops and one-on-one mentoring sessions, participants learn to refine technical skills, create a portfolio, write about their work, and present their projects to the community in a public exhibition at CPAC’s gallery.

It is always an honor to see the tremendous growth and development of each veteran as they go through the program. Make sure to keep an eye out for the opening of our 2024 program application in the new year. Learn more by using the link in our bio.

"Over the past few years, when I have met photogra "Over the past few years, when I have met photographers in studio visits and portfolio reviews, I have been deeply moved by artists whose work is motivated by the need to tell a story. Personal stories are what interest me the most – stories about family dynamics, coming of age and aging, moments of solitude in a domestic space – not only because they communicate more nuanced meaning, but because I care about which stories are told and who gets to tell them." - Mary Statzer

Mark your calendars for the opening of our next exhibition, Tell Me a Story: The Role of Storytelling in Photography. Juror Mary Statzer selected 32 photographers from across the country and abroad to showcase how single photographs can summarize larger narratives and stand on their own.

The exhibit will run from November 30th, 2023 - January 6th, 2024.

The Opening Reception is Friday, December 1st from 6-9 PM.
