Due to permitting delays beyond our control, we cannot open our new space until June 30th. This means OUTCRY, featuring artist Whitney Bradshaw, has been postponed⁠. Please see our website and exhibition page for more details.⁠

While this news is disappointing, we ask for your patience and flexibility while we wait. Fortunately, our lease has been extended at our current space at 1070 Bannock Street, so in the meantime:⁠
⁠
- Classes, including teen workshops, will continue to take place at 1070 Bannock St. through June 30th⁠
- Our in person PhotoVox Print Share will take place on June 14th at 6:30 PM at Bannock St.⁠
- Except for classes and PhotoVox, our Bannock St. location will remain closed during regular daytime hours⁠
- Our Annual Members' Show will take place at 1200 Lincoln St. with an opening reception on July 15 with the jurors⁠

Thank you to everyone who attended our Grand Opening Celebration and Print Auction supported by our generous event sponsors. It was wonderful to see so many people in our new space to commemorate this exciting step in CPAC's journey. ⁠

We would also like to thank everyone who participated in the auction – both the artists who donated their beautiful artwork and those who bid. Congratulations to the winners! Artwork can be picked up at 1070 Bannock Street, starting tomorrow, Saturday, May 20, at noon and during regular business hours after this date. ⁠

Lastly, we would like to thank the photo community, local and national. Your support, which we've seen so much of, allows us to continue our mission of fostering the understanding and appreciation of photography through exhibitions, education, and community outreach. Today is the last day to participate in our Print Auction! ⁠

The fantastic thing about this auction is that you can participate from almost anywhere. From the Rockies all the way to the Smoky Mountains, the East Coast to the West, on your smartphone, a laptop, we welcome all to join in the online bidding and have the chance to take home a beautiful photograph! ⁠

Kate Roberts (@one.fine.eye.phone) has been a professional photographer for over 50 years. Exhibiting work worldwide and has received several awards, including the Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Female Photographers and the Photographer of the Year from the American Institute of Architects. ⁠
⁠
Kate's photo experience has changed over time. She created most of her professional work with a Mamiya RZ67 using film. Shifting into the digital age in 2012, she began to shoot 35mm on a Canon, eventually becoming interested in iPhone photography, and now exclusively uses an iPhone for her work.
⁠

Did you know that landscape depictions declined after the fall of the Roman Empire and it wasn't until the 16th century that Renaissance artists began a revival of the subject? ⁠
⁠
Landscape and nature have been constant themes in painting and photography, evolving through countless approaches. Today's featured artists, Dawn Watson (@dawnwatson.photo) and Vicki Reed (@vickir33d), depict this theme in two different ways, yet share a connection as they turn to nature to escape the world's chaos. ⁠
⁠
Dawn Watson says, "Nature serves as my muse, focus of concern, a source of solace and nexus of healing as I endeavor to make sense of the grace and chaos inherent in each moment." A sentiment Vicki Reed shares, "The more chaotic the world is, the more I am drawn to the stillness of nature. I try to capture the moments that people often overlook hoping to encourage them to slow down and live in the now." ⁠
⁠
Dawn and Vicki belong to a collective of photographers who share a long history of capturing the landscape to contemplate how we affect and belong in it. They also display how photographers can tackle the same theme but with different approaches, which can be seen in the works of multiple artists within the print auction. ⁠

Did you know that over 1,000 images are uploaded to Instagram per second? ⁠Many of us consume photography through our smartphones, so we thought we would try to provide some context when it comes to life-size dimensions for a few pieces in our auction.⁠
⁠
The first two images are digital versions of photographs from Linda Connor and Juan Fuentes, fit to Instagram dimensions (1080 x 1080 pixels). The last two slides feature the actual prints – Linda's print, a standard 8 x 10 inches, standing just slightly taller than an iPhone 10 on a wooden easel, and then we can see how those both compare to Juan's framed print.⁠
⁠

Did you know that the photobook is not a recent invention? It has existed since the very beginning of the medium and before the twentieth century it was the mode for access more than exhibitions. Today it is considered an art form in and of itself.

Did you know the word cyanotype comes from the Ancient Greek kuáneos, “dark blue” + túpos, “mark, impression, type”? The photographic process was first introduced in 1842 by John Herschel and was used in the fields of engineering, architecture, and botany. The cyanotype's success as a form of artistic expression lies in its capacity for imaginative manipulation.

Christine Nguyen (@seamoonshe) is a local photographer who draws upon her love for nature and the sciences. Through her work, Nguyen envisions the fluctuations between the micro- and macroscopic. Her art has allowed her to continuously know more about the world in which we live.
⁠
Kristy Headley (@kristy.headley), a San Francisco Bay based photographer, describes her work as a meditation on stuckness, stagnation, and observation at the precipice of change. Headley zooms in on the smallest of nature’s living organisms and shines a light into their cyclical, foundational work that provides vitality to our natural world.
