Objective:

This workshop will introduce advanced cyanotype technique.

Course Description:

Students will be guided into advanced creative cyanotype techniques, including making digital negatives in Photoshop for printing on transparency film, sensitizing select areas, shaping paper for exposure, making multiple exposures, as well as wet cyanotype. Additionally, students will have a chance to try plant-based print toning to achieved variations in color. Students will conclude class with making a simple book.

Materials Needed:

  • Objects for contact printing (anything with strong shape or silhouette), or digital negatives (no larger than 8 x 10). Traditional contact printing was made with botanical specimens.
  • Chemistry, paper on which to print, as well as a few objects will be provided. Students may bring clothing or other items to print on, such as t-shirts, hats, gloves, napkins, towels, table cloths, or any materials made from 100% natural fibers.
