Objective:

Get comfortable using CPAC’s digital lab in this beginner-friendly crash course led by CPAC Tutor Frank Varney. Designed as a practical introduction to the space, this workshop will help participants understand the basic digital printing workflow, become familiar with CPAC’s equipment, and leave with the knowledge and confidence to return to the lab for future rentals.

Course Description:

This three-hour, in-person workshop is designed for photographers who are curious about CPAC’s digital lab but want more guidance than the standard orientation provides. Rather than functioning as a full deep dive into fine art printing, this class offers a short, approachable introduction to the lab’s equipment, workflow, printing process and the Canon Professional Print and Layout software CPAC uses to Print from its Canon Pro-100 and Pro 2100 printers.

Participants will learn the basics of preparing a digital image for print, working with file size and print dimensions, choosing a paper, and sending a file to print. The class will also introduce students to the structure of CPAC’s digital lab so they better understand how the space works and what they can realistically do during a rental session.

Each participant will leave with one 13 x 19 inch print, giving them the chance to move through the workflow from screen to finished object. The emphasis of the course is on familiarity, access, and confidence rather than producing a large volume of prints.

By the end of the workshop, students will have a stronger understanding of how to use CPAC’s digital lab and what steps are involved in preparing and making a print. This class is meant to serve as a practical bridge into future independent digital lab use.
