Objective:

Students will be guided through creating a digital print-with the focus on learning how the technical choices inform artistic results. From choosing an inkjet paper to managing color profiles, carefully considering all the printing options can be the difference between an ordinary photo and an extraordinary piece of artwork.

Course Description:

Over the course of 2 full days, Eric Joseph, of Freestyle Photographic & Imaging Supplies, will cover all of the technical jargon and vocabulary of inkjet papers, as well as introduce students to the full range of inkjet media available on the market-from standard Resin Coated Photograde papers, up to handmade Japanese Washi papers. This workshop emphasizes the creative benefits of understanding and controlling your digital print through hands-on printmaking at CPAC’s digital lab. Using our two in-house Canon printers (Canon PRO-1000 and Canon PRO-2100), Eric will provide directions for printing from Lightroom, Photoshop, and from Canon’s Professional Print and Layout software to achieve the best quality digital prints.

Materials Needed:

• Bring a thumb drive, flash drive, hard drive, or computer with three or four files only (be selective) formatted as follows:
  • Color Space = Adobe RGB (1998)
  • Size = 17 inches on the long side at 300 ppi
  • Bit Depth = 16 bit
  • File Format = TIF
• If your files are already sRGB, 8-bit, and formatted as JPG, leave them alone.  If you don’t know what this means, don’t worry, we’ll use it as a teachable moment
