Emerging Vision highlights the work of 28 of the most talented photography students in the U.S., offering a glimpse into the future of a medium that is constantly evolving. Juried by Samantha Johnston, Executive Director at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center, the exhibition will be on view December 2 – January 7 with an opening reception on December 3, 6-9 pm.

Finalists were selected from a pool of more than 350 submissions from students currently enrolled in graduate and undergraduate photography programs across the country.

“A fundamental part of CPAC’s mission is to support emerging artists,” said Johnston. “A great way to do that is to create exhibition opportunities like Emerging Vision, where students can experience what it’s like to work with a professional gallery and gain some visibility for their work while they’re still in school. ”

The exhibition is open-themed, and finalists use an impressive range of photographic techniques to explore subjects including gender equality, western landscapes, abandoned spaces, personal relationships, among others.

“It’s exciting to see students working with new media as well as traditional techniques; from photo installations to photograms made in the darkroom,” Johnston said. “Each student works in a different style and genre, exploring varying points of view about life and experience, from the intimate moment captured in Rana Young’s Untitled from the Rug’s Topography to the personal exploration of photography as a tool for healing in Chuck Martin’s Marriage License,” she added.
