Time to fall for photography 😉 📸. The fall Time to fall for photography 😉 📸.

The fall equinox and the first day of autumn arrives today. Autumn offers a wide range of photographic opportunities. So we thought we would share some inspiration from our incredible Permanent Collection.

CPAC's Permanent Collection contains more than 800 fine art prints donated by 180 photographers working from the mid-1800s to today. And our entire collection can be viewed online.

How will you get creative behind the camera with this changing of the seasons?

For October's PhotoVox we will be holding a discus For October's PhotoVox we will be holding a discussion with two local photographers who are no strangers to the world of artificial intelligence (AI) and photography. AI has had an immense impact on the art world, and photography in general, so understanding the capabilities and limitations of AI is significant to artists rising in the world today.

Two industry experts, Todd Dobbs (@professor_dobbs) and Patti Hallock (@pattihal), will go into the history of AI, including legal and ethical dilemmas. They will also speak to how technology has shifted the art world and how AI has affected their own careers as professional photographers.

If you are curious about the ways in which technology and art can work together to create new perspectives, you won't want to miss this event!

When: October 11 at 6:30PM
Where: 1200 Lincoln Street, Suite 111
Cost: Free for CPAC Members, $10 for non-members

"OUTCRY is a protest project, and its meaning cont "OUTCRY is a protest project, and its meaning continues to morph and change with the times. I am thrilled to see OUTCRY become a voice for many; a chorus of dissent against all that threatens our bodily autonomy and civil rights. My hope is that the project encourages more people to wield the power of their voice and fight for social justice and meaningful change with womxn’s autonomy at the center." - @thewhitneybradshaw

OUTCRY has grown to more than four hundred fifty portraits of womxn from all walks of life who have chosen to take a stand against a culture that too often dismisses womxn’s voices.

These behind the scene photos are from a scream session that Bradshaw held at the DePaul Art Museum, Chicago, in 2018, interspersed with participant quotes about the personal impact of the project.

This exhibition is open at CPAC until October 7 and free to view.

*Bradshaw uses the term "womxn" as "an inclusive, if imperfect, term to encompass cis-gendered women, transwomen, and nonbinary and genderqueer people who experience the world in femme bodies.”

Big news!! This October, we have @alice.sachs.zime Big news!! This October, we have @alice.sachs.zimet instructing two different online classes on the photo market and collecting.

The first offers participants an introduction into the mechanics of the fine art photography marketplace, along with insider tips from the perspective of a pioneer collector. The second is an in-depth discussion on the commercial art market where you can learn the types of questions collectors ask, and how this might impact your practice.

You still might be wondering how this rare peek into a collector’s mind can help you, why not take Zimet's word for it...

“No matter if you are a photographer or a collector (whether beginner or seasoned), students will become more aware of how the photo market works. Collectors will learn the right questions to ask to become well-informed buyers. And photographers will acquire the skill set of how to find a gallery, improve their communication skills and better market themselves.”

Meet Steve MacGregor, CPAC Featured Member -

MacGregor fell deeply in love with photography when he received his first camera around eight years old. At the age of fourteen, he earned enough money from his first part-time job to set up a tiny darkroom in his parents’ basement. MacGregor would buy 100 rolls of Tri-X film for about $30 and load it into reusable 35mm film canisters using a cheap plastic bulk film loader. After shooting, he would develop the film and make prints.

Since those days, MacGregor’s passion for quick edits using only the basic tools of photography has remained unchanged. Even now, with the many tools available for digital photography, he prefers to keep things simple, relying mostly on just the basic panel in Lightroom. He never creates multiple images, double exposures or combines two or more images. The photograph you see is what he has envisioned.

Watching CPAC members take advantage of the many opportunities we offer and reach new heights with their photography is one of the reasons we love what we do as an organization. We are honored to be part of MacGregor's continued journey with photography.
