Do course descriptions miss the mark on what you want to create? Are you excited to make photos, but lack direction? Do you want to build a body of cohesive work but don’t know where to begin? Then this class is for you. I created this class because this was what I was looking for years ago as a prolific, yet directionless photographer. I needed more than a “how-to” class, but I didn’t want to spend my time working on a teacher-specified subject. In this class we’ll explore how inspiration strikes and build a few techniques to help spark ideas. We’ll take those ideas and create individual projects with concrete deadlines and goals. We’ll work together to develop community and learn about constructive critique. At the end of the course, each student will be challenged to self-select and showcase 8 to 10 images that can be considered a body of work.
Materials Needed:
Students should come to class with a few images, their cameras and a general working knowledge of their equipment. We will spend class time shooting and critiquing in addition to being given outside assignments. Students will need to bring in their work on a USB drive to share with the group.
