Objective:
Students will learn the basics of black and white film stocks, tips to make a good black and white image, the materials needed to develop at CPAC, and how to do the whole process of developing.
Description:
Learn the magic of black and white film development in this hands-on darkroom workshop at CPAC. Designed for students of all levels, this course will guide you through the entire process of developing black and white film—from loading your reel to hanging your negatives to dry. You’ll gain a solid understanding of the materials and chemistry involved, explore popular black and white film stocks, and learn how to create well-exposed images in-camera to get the most out of your negatives.
Each student will expose one roll of black and white film, help mix the chemistry, and develop their film under the guidance of the instructor. By the end of the class, you’ll have the confidence and knowledge to process film independently in the CPAC darkroom. No prior experience is necessary!

- Black and white film stocks
- Pushing and pulling film
- Chemistry – what it is and what it does
- Equipment needed to develop at CPAC
- Process of developing

- 35mm film camera – CPAC can provide a loaner 35mm SLR film camera if you do not have your own
- Dedicated work apron
- Additional materials and supplies, not covered by the materials fee for the class, are the responsibility of the student
