In this workshop we will explore special techniques for creating artistic, up-close images with your digital SLR camera and macro lens, point and shoot with macro function, or smartphone in a fun, casual, but intensive environment. Part of the time will be spent learning macro techniques indoors in a studio atmosphere, and (weather permitting) we will go outside and explore outdoor macro image making. Among the subjects we will discuss in this class are various equipment options, the proper conditions for photographing indoors and outdoors, lighting, backgrounds, choosing the best subject, depth of field, and other helpful tips for using a macro lens. The workshop includes use of studio lighting and various props and still life items that will be provided. The class consists of lectures and practicing the techniques together with plenty of time for individual help. Students will have the opportunity to have the work they created in class reviewed and critiqued via overhead projection.
