Students looking to dig into the study of all-things photography will receive a condensed master class intended to expand their sense of criteria in the medium.

Course Description:

This workshop is designed for beginner, amateur or self-taught photographers with little or no technical knowledge. Through technical explanations, as well as theory and practice, discussion of parameters, tools and techniques students will be able to execute more effective image-making. The content of the workshop will include an historical review, including important photographers and images (such as Ansel Adams, Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, Sally Mann and Irving Penn), photographic movements and styles; as well as to the technical aspects of manual exposure. After lectures, students will be encouraged to practice techniques and participate in assignments for the following classes. Students will also participate in group critique of images. Finally, this workshop brings the together the criteria (guiding principles) alongside the critique (open dialogue). The main focus being observation to engage in a deeper and more meaningful relationship with the craft, no matter the experience level.

  • Photography composition techniques (eye)
