ABOUT | Join us for an exciting discussion about architectural photography, presented by CPAC and the Denver Architecture Foundation. Our panel will include two leading experts — Caleb Tkach, a commercial and architectural photographer with over a decade of experience, and Andrew G. Nielsen, Principal at Anderson Mason Dale Architects, a Colorado architectural design firm. Our moderator will be Samantha Johnston, Executive Director & Curator of CPAC.

Among other questions, we’ll address:

           > Where do fine art photography and architectural photography intersect?

           > What makes an outstanding architectural photograph?

           > What’s the best way to approach an architectural design firm with your work?

Andrew G. Nielsen, FAIA, PE, LEED AP
A licensed architect as well as registered professional engineer, Andy Nielsen has over 35 years of experience and became a principal of Anderson Mason Dale Architects in 1999.  Through extensive research and study, he has become one of the firm’s key resources in the design of state-of-the-art facilities for higher education, cultural institutions, and community-oriented projects.  Andy’s work has been published in national architectural journals and received numerous design awards.  He has shown particular skill at achieving exemplary solutions within a limited budget, and his diverse projects include the new United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs, the Wing Buildings at Denver Union Station, the Triangle Building, the Newman Center and Dimond Family Residential Village at DU, and several projects for CU Boulder, his alma mater.  Andy was elevated to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows in 2016.

Caleb Tkach is a photographer with over two decades of experience in the industry. He specializes in architecture and interior design photography, construction progress photography, and industrial motion videography. Caleb has worked with numerous high-profile professionals in the fields of healthcare, hospitality, education, and construction & design. He is passionate about photography and architecture working together to create a cohesive artwork that captures the essence of how people experience space.

Caleb is an active member of The Association of Independent Architectural Photographers and American Society of Media Photographers. Always pushing himself and sharpening his artistic vision, he has been published in numerous magazines and trade publications throughout the architectural and construction industry. When he steps out from behind the camera, Caleb enjoys hiking, camping, and fishing in the wilds of Colorado with his wife and kids. And he still plays with LEGOs—you’re never too old for LEGOs.

PhotoVox is a monthly program offered by the Colorado Photographic Arts Center to help you strengthen your artistic voice with the support of other photographers and artists in the Denver Metro community. Meetings are held monthly at either CPAC’s downtown gallery or virtually on Zoom, and feature discussions led by local arts and community leaders. Three sessions per year are dedicated to portfolio sharing.
