ABOUT | Finding and submitting work to open calls can be a discouraging and often confusing process for artists looking to share work with galleries or jurors. Join us for a presentation to help simplify the process. This month’s speaker, Aidan Avery has blazed a trail for artists and photographers looking to connect with gallerists, curators and other professionals in the photo arts industry through his weekly newsletter, The Open Call List, a carefully compiled list of open call opportunities for photographers, as well as of artist-friendly exhibitions, grants, fellowships, residencies, scholarships, jobs, and more. As an artist himself, Avery understands the headache that come with the necessary, non-creative side of artistic practice, and has developed a solution to share. His talk will go in-depth on the following: how to find open call resources and opportunities in the photo industry, as well as how (and by what criteria) to evaluate those calls to make sure that they are favorable, or artist-friendly, rather than exploitative.
