Skill Level | Intermediate to Advanced
This exploratory workshop focuses on building and sharpening your portfolio to prepare for reviews, calls for entry, shows, or to simply push yourself to the next level of your practice. Designed for the intermediate to advanced photographic artist, we will discuss sequencing, editing, artist statements, and presentation.
Photographers should be prepared to show actual prints by the final class, if not earlier. Through critiques, practice reviews, and viewing examples of other photographer’s work, participants will leave this workshop with a clearer understanding of their work, how to talk about it, and with a stronger portfolio.
Each class meeting, we will discuss portfolios, create actionable next steps, and look at work by other relevant photographers. Participants will receive helpful handouts related to building a portfolio and preparing for a review. Time will be allowed in class for editing and sequencing. Outside of class, participants are highly encouraged to continue work and exploration of their portfolios in preparation for the next class. Based on class feedback, shooting new work may be appropriate.
What to bring:
- Portfolios (approximately 15-20 images each portfolio) prepared as prints. Please bring no more than 3 portfolios. One portfolio is plenty to work with for this workshop. Digital files are accepted for the first class, but prints are required for the subsequent classes.
- Notebook, pen or pencil
