Learn how to create your own visual language using everyday objects. Transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Course Description:

Learn how to create your own visual language using everyday objects to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. In this workshop, Meg Griffiths will share inspirational historical and contemporary examples of artists working with the constructed still-life. She will teach students how to “warm up” with writing exercises that will access ideas to inspire new images. The workshop will discuss metaphor, meaning, and the alchemy that takes place when selecting and combining various objects in one arrangement. Each student will learn how to set up scenes using natural light in select locations around Denver. Meg will also share her still-life tool kit, and tips for harnessing light with reflectors and modifiers. Beyond this, students will learn how to look and listen to what the images reveal after being made – matching intention with execution in service of your unique vision and expression.

• Camera
• SD Cards
• Batteries/Chargers
• Tripod (optional, but very helpful)
• Computer to download images
• Objects – bring some goodies with you!
• Journal & pen
