This class is designed around the idea of photography as activism. Photographs are one of the most popular tools used to advocate for social and environmental awareness. During this workshop, students will pick a cause in which they are passionate about and photograph a collective narrative series in which they will use as a vessel to advocate for what they wish to change in the world. Throughout the workshop students will be able to strengthen their research skills and explore how photographs can be used to bring awareness to any issue – no matter how big or small.
Topics Included:
- Brief history in using photography to bring awareness
- Define what advocacy is
- Research/standing behind a cause
- Mini collage exercise
- building bodies of work
Required supplies for this program:
- Paper Notebook and pen or pencil
- a Digital Camera (DSLR preferred) with a Memory Card
- Scissors and Glue (for collaging)
