Reception and Artist Talks: Thursday, October 8, 6 – 8 pm.

For the second year, CPAC is proud to partner with CENTER to present award-winning photography from around the world. Now in its 20th year, the CENTER Awards & Grants attract entries from artists working in 40+ countries. The process is highly competitive, with jurors from TIME magazine, CNN, the National Gallery of Art, London’s National Portrait Gallery, the National Galleries of Scotland, and Italy’s Photolux Festival identifying outstanding documentary and fine art work. The works of Inés Dümig (Germany) and Justin Kimball (United States) anchor CPAC’s exhibition. Dümig and Kimball won grants for documentary work focusing on the lives of the forgotten and invisible. Dümig’s documentary project Apart Together documents the fragmented existence of Sahra, a Somali refugee living in Munich. Kimball’s Brick and Mortar focuses on formerly thriving coal, steel, paper and farming communities along the East Coast of the US. The Curve award show was shown this summer in Santa Fe at the Center for Contemporary Art.
For this presentation, the two award winners are joined by Denver photographer Morgan Rachel Levy with her series …though the waves beat continually.*
