Photography student Hajer Al-Eid (@hajer.aleid) at University of Nebraska Lincoln is just one of 22 talented artists showing in our exhibit Emerging Vision, which opens to the public on Friday, November 25th.⁠
⁠
These images are from her series Anti-Upbringing, representing the ideology and mindset Hajer was raised in, inclusive of her perspective on it. ⁠
⁠
"The ideology stems from Middle Eastern values, which do not represent or correlate with Islamic values. What people within this culture see as the ’proper’ or ‘common’ upbringing is in all actuality an anti-upbringing of their children."⁠
⁠
Come explore Hajer's work and all of the students. We will be closed Wednesday 11/23 and Thursday 11/24, but look forward to seeing you on Friday!⁠

Meet the jurors of Emerging Vision, @yoavfriedlander and @dana_stirling! ⁠
⁠
Originally from Israel, Yoav and Dana are now based in New York City. They both received their MFA from the School of Visual Arts in Photography, and Related Media. Together they founded Float Photo Magazine (@float_magazine), with the goal "...to share and celebrate the photographic work of a versatile roster of contemporary photographers from around the world."⁠
⁠
Together they selected images by 22 talented photography students from universities located throughout the US and abroad.⁠
⁠
For Yoav and Dana, "Even though there was no specific theme, this collection of images, all together, tell a story of a collective who are inspired by the world around them and the people they are close to. Images of nature, family members or self-portraiture that examine what it is to be in these times through their eyes and their lenses."⁠
⁠
Emerging Vision opens next Friday, November 25th and will be on display through January 7th, 2023. ⁠

December’s PhotoVox will be held virtually on Zoom with guest speaker Eric Kunsman (@eric_kunsman).⁠
⁠
Eric will discuss his two projects, "Felicific Calculus: Technology as a Social Marker of Race, Class, & Economics in Rochester, NY" and "Life-Lines Throughout the US," and how what started as a photography project has led him into the realm of visual sociology and activism. ⁠
⁠
Another topic will be how Eric works with gallery directors and curators to bring a local community collaboration element, which discussions for each exhibition usually look at communities’ social markers and social status.⁠
⁠
Lastly, Eric will talk about how his photography project has pushed him into activism to ensure his Rochester community has access to communication for those in the lowest economic brackets in the United States.⁠
