2022 ARCHITECTURE PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
& JURIED ONLINE EXHIBITION

DECEMBER 12, 2022 – FEBRUARY 28, 2023

The Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC) and the Denver Architecture Foundation (DAF) are pleased to present their 5th annual Doors Open Denver Photography Competition, Y/OUR Denver.

Y/OUR Denver asked local photographers to find and photograph their favorite architectural spaces in Colorado. The call was open to all forms of imagery and from photographers of all skill levels. Juror Samantha Johnston, Executive Director & Curator of CPAC, selected 30 images for the exhibition from a pool of 233 entries, showcasing the big and small areas of our state.

About the Denver Architecture Foundation (DAF)

Founded in 1990, DAF continues to champion the deep-rooted connections between architecture, education and community-building through diverse and expanding programs. DAF is a unique organization in the Denver area, fulfilling strong public interest in local architecture and its relevance in shaping Denver’s past, present and future. As the city continues to experience unprecedented growth, DAF’s importance also grows – and we have responded by expanding and enhancing program offerings for all people living, working and studying in the Mile High City.

About the Juror

Samantha Johnston has been the Executive Director and Curator at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center since 2015. She holds a certificate in Arts Development and Program Management from the University of Denver, an MFA from Lesley University College of Art & Design, and a BFA from Alfred University. Prior to joining CPAC, she taught photography and visual arts for 12 years at high schools in Boston and Denver.

She has curated exhibitions with contemporary artists such as Jess T. Dugan, Daniel Coburn, Barbara Ciurej & Lindsay Lochman, and Zora Murff. Samantha has served as a reviewer at Houston FotoFest, Review Santa Fe, PhotoPlus New York, Medium, Month of Photography (MoP), and Filter. She has juried several exhibitions including Critical Mass and The Fence.

She is a longtime member of the Society for Photographic Education, and served as Treasurer of the Southwest region from 2013-2016 and Co-Chair of SPE’s 2013 Southwest regional conference in Denver. She was named one of Colorado’s Top 100 Creatives 3.0 by Westword and has been featured in Lenscratch.
